AHAA Living: Footloose blog, pedicure, spa, feet

Footloose!

Every single AHAAer we know has an awesome stable of sports toys and apparel, whether it’s bikes, skis, snowboards, kayaks, SUPs – oh, and let’s not forget the technical clothing for every season and in-between season. Yep, they’re ready to play, train or race at the drop of a dime. Dig a little deeper and you find more similarities: they eat well, strive for a good night’s sleep, and have figured out how to master their stress… well, sort of. Now go one layer deeper and you find out that most of us are almost doing all the right things, life-maintenance of every sort, except fine tuning our feet. Yes, that’s right, the two pivotal things at the bottom of our legs. Those two silent and obedient beauties that don’t complain when they spend entire days on end trapped in ski boots, or pounded on mile after mile for entire ultra-marathons. Let’s be honest, most of us take them very much for granted – until we need to do something about an ingrown toenail that has started to create performance issues.

Recently, we did just that: we took ourselves out for Stillwater Spa‘s ‘City Foot Rescue’, where we had to reveal our feet in all their un-glory. Our aesthetician team were generous with their compliments, and said they’d seen worse, but they also recommended we come back for a couple more visits. What happened next was archeological-ish: feet got soaked in mineralized water, nails trimmed, cuticles pushed back, callouses filed down, ingrown toenails were wrangled, and heels exfoliated. Then came the heavenly salt scrub deep massage of the feet and lower legs, followed by a hydration mask and paraffin. There’s polish available, but neither the guys nor the gals chose the glam it up; everyone just got the light buff. In just one hour, our feet experienced a complete transformation. This very short, but very sweet, maintenance program also doubled as a great unplugged, face-to-face catch-up club.

If your feet are dry, cracked, or in any way ‘damaged’, we highly recommend Stillwater Spa’s ‘City Foot Rescue’. This intense 60-minute pedicure will leave your feet feeling like they matter, and ready to show you peak performance again.

Oh, and in case you have time to spare (we didn’t today), plan to spend at least half a day at the Stillwater Spa. Their full-service spa features 17 treatment rooms, a couple’s massage room, an aqua therapy room, steam room, sauna and whirlpool, tea lounge for relaxing before and after treatments, and a fitness centre complete with the latest equipment.
