Five Uses For Honey

Oh, honey, honey! Honey isn’t just for your morning tea – it’s packed with do-your-body-good minerals, is super versatile, and buying good, local honey is great for bees and the health of our planet.

The AHAALiving team has put together a lift of our top five favourite uses for honey – and they’re pretty sweet!

1. FACIAL CLEANSER

Raw honey fights bacteria, nourishes skin, promotes healing, and helps to balance your skins PH. It is great on all skin types, from acne sufferers to those with sensitive skin. Just apply a thin layer of raw honey to your face, allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes, then rinse it off with cool water. Your skin will thank you!

2. CONDITIONER

Lock in moisture and boost shine by swapping out your conditioner with raw honey. It’s antimicrobial properties also help to combat scalp irritations that can cause dandruff and itchy scalp. Apply a generous amount to wet hair, allow to sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

3. MINOR WOUND CARE

Because of honey’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it makes a great treatment for minor scrapes, wounds, and burns. Simply clean the wound thoroughly, then apply a thin layer of honey, re-applying as necessary.

4. PERFORMANCE BOOSTER

Swap out your expensive sport gels, for a shot of honey. Honey is full of energy boosting sugars and bio-available carbohydrates, to fuel your muscles. It is also gentle on the digestive system, which makes it great for soothing an uneasy stomach on race day.

5. GUT HEALTH

Raw honey contains healthy bacteria that support gut health and strengthen the immune system – honey also doesn’t ferment, meaning it is soothing to the stomach and digests easily.

The uses for honey are endless, so get experimenting–it might amaze you or even better, you might amaze yourself.
